Childbirth Classes

We are signed up for two childbirth classes as of this evening. We are taking a basic 5 week course at St. Elizabeth's, the hospital I'm delivering the babies at. We are also taking a class for multiples at another local hospital because these classes do not occur as often as the regular childbirth classes. We will keep you updated on our progress.

Look what came today!

The crib sets I ordered! Greg helped me pick them out.
Even April wants to check them out:

Action packed weekend

Since I've been sick for the past two weeks we decided it was time to get something done this weekend and we have been busy. We started Friday night by heading up to the office at the apartment complex and picking up the garage door opener for our new garage. Then we headed out to the Wilder city building for the first of six weekly fish fries. We are hooked on the local church and community fish fries and the money goes to a good cause. From there we headed to the mall to pick up a maternity support belt for me. I've developed quite a bit of pelvic discomfort in the past week or so and I called the nurse at my doctor's office and she said there was not much I could do but to get a maternity belt and it may help support the extra weight. I'd been planning on getting one since someone at work who has two sets of twins highly recommended it, I just didn't think I would need it so soon. After that we went over to Babies R Us and picked up my Valentine's Day gift from Greg. He got me a scrapbook that already had the pages ready for me to document my pregnancy! He knew I wanted to put one together but I really don't have the time (or patience - the wedding one was enough for me!!) to do the pages, all I have to do with this one is add pictures. I love it!

Saturday morning we headed out early to pick up a baby swing I found on Craigslist for $50. Now we have two, I know this is a good purchase because I remember how much we used the swings when Nick & Alex were born. We had a nice breakfast at Bob Evans and then rushed home because Directv was coming out to fix our dish FINALLY. While the technician was fixing the dish Greg went ahead and moved all of the stuff we were putting into storage in the garage. I'm glad to not have to look at all of those boxes of Christmas stuff & baseball cards anymore. After he'd finished this we headed over to Babies R Us to create our registry. I let Greg scan the stuff because it keeps him interested. This always means some interesting stuff was scanned. We had a good time because I went with a very specific list and we whipped right through the store.

Today we started the day off with the first Sunday mass of Lent and the priest gave the EXACT same homily as he did last year. I know most people wouldn't remember this but I remember that it really made me think about what I gave up for Lent last year and how it impacts me spiritually. Afterwards, we had a nice lunch at Benihana to celebrate Valentine's Day. It was pretty cool because we were the only people at our table so it was nice and quiet.

When we got back from Benihana I got back on Craigslist and I found a glider rocker that was available for $60. I was so excited I e-mailed right away and it was still available. I was so psyched we went right out and picked it up. Greg promised me a glider rocker when we got married but told me I couldn't get one until we got pregnant. When I saw how much they actually cost new I was disappointed because I didn't want to pay so much money. I'd been trolling Craigslist for the right one for a couple weeks and it worked out perfectly.

Now, I need to go to bed because I need to rest up for a busy week at work. Our next doctor's appointment is a week from Tuesday and I can't wait!

Twins at 20 weeks

Your baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. She's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. (For the first 20 weeks, when a baby's legs are curled up against her torso and hard to measure, measurements are taken from the top of her head to her bottom — the "crown to rump" measurement. After 20 weeks, she's measured from head to toe.)

She's swallowing more these days, which is good practice for her digestive system. She's also producing meconium, a black, sticky by-product of digestion. This gooey substance will accumulate in her bowels, and you'll see it in her first soiled diaper (some babies pass meconium in the womb or during delivery) (From BabyCenter.com)

Garages, Baby Girls, Weight Struggles, & The Bed All To Myself

In preparation for the two baby girls coming we have made a few changes around the apartment:
  • Melissa has started to sleep on the couch and I have the bed all to myself. I feel bad since I shouldn't be in the bedroom with the bed all to myself. If anyone should be sleeping on the couch, it should be me, however Melissa says that she is more comfortable on the couch. I guess if she is more comfortable I can sleep in the bedroom.

  • We have started to clean out the spare bedroom and we started to rent a garage in the apartment complex that we live in to gain some more space. My goal is to try and get one of the cars in it and a lot of the boxes and plastic tubs full of our stuff.

  • I have also started using Melissa's BodyBugg since she can't use it and I am trying hard to get back down to a more healthy weight. I am having a hard time since I don't have my partner with me but it's understandable as Melissa is carrying the babies. I am shooting for a 1,000 caloric deficit per day. I am going to run a Mini-Marathon before the babies are born. You can follow my training progress on my Twitter feed.

18 week OB appt

From the ultrasound we learned the following:

Baby A weigned 9 oz (measured 18 wks 5 days) and Baby B weighed 11 oz (measured 19 wks). The ultrasound tech said as long as they are within a couple days of each other everything is good.

Baby A is breech, her feet are down by my pelvis. Baby B is not breech but her feet are up under my lungs. Their heads are next to each other. They clearly 2 separate placentas. Their heartrates were 152 & 156. We also got to see their spines, hearts and lots of other parts of the anatomy I didn't know they measured. It was pretty cool.

We also had an OB visit following the ultrasound. We met with my physician and also the high risk nurse. I'm officially part of the high risk clinic now and all of my visits will be on Tuesdays going forward. I asked lots of questions about my various ailments, the weight I've gained, etc. My uterus measured 24 cm (the same size as a singleton pregnancy at 24 weeks). Once again my doctor was quite patient and answered all of my questions. My next visit is at 22 weeks for another ultrasound (to check growth) and OB visit.

Baby Names

Tomorrow we have our 18 week ultrasound and we will get to find out the genders of our little ones. Needless to say we are so excited to find out if we are having boys or girls or one of each.

This has sparked quite a bit of name debate amongst our friends and a certain family member. We've made a decision that we are not going to share the names until we announce their birth. However, I've decided in the meantime that we can give them names that the outside world can know them by until that time.

These names are going to be in honor of Nick my youngest brother who has been suggesting various interesting baby names for the past couple of months. I'm thinking if it is 2 boys we will go with Colt & Brennan. Girls will be Miley & Hannah. He hasn't given a unique suggestion for one of each but I'm sure one is coming. We will keep you updated. :)
